Muneer Manie recently celebrated his first Swipeaversary, but he’s been with the New Media family for over two decades. His passion, dedication and can-do attitude inspire his #SwipeFam daily, and we are thrilled to celebrate the first of many Swipeaversaries with him. Interested to know more about this amazing Swiper? You’re at the right place!
After finishing high school, I completed an HTML course and landed my first job at a small dev company that happened to be owned by Deon Meyer. The company was eventually acquired by New Media, where I spent a good three to four years as an art director on the MultiChoice account. Over the next few years, I worked in photography/retouching but eventually found my way back to development and worked as a Flash developer on New Media’s digimags. During this time, I developed the first mobile app at New Media, for City Press. Not long after, I transformed into a full-blown backend developer.
There’s something very satisfying about building new things every day and seeing the possibilities of our products grow with each line of code. The tech ecosystem can change the face of the future, and knowing that I’m part of an industry that has the potential to impact lives globally inspires me to do my best every day.
Swipe iX has a very fun and informal culture that emanates from top management throughout the company. The Swiper energy is contagious, stimulates creativity and paves the way for out-of-the-box thinking.
My passion for woodworking really started at a young age when I was always trying to fix my granny’s pedestal that didn’t need fixing lol. This passion continued throughout school and after, and a few years back I decided to redo our kitchen. The revamp started out as just repainting the cabinets, but it quickly evolved into a passion project and I ended up pulling the entire kitchen. This project took me about four months to complete and is still my biggest project to date.
CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) have always been keen interests of mine, and studying technical drawing at school honed the interest even more. Laser cutting, 3D printing and CNC machining all occupy my off-peak hours. The intrigue for me is designing something on a computer, machining it and seeing the item complete and functioning as expected. You can go to my Instagram page (@lit.cpt) to view some of the laser engraved lamps I’ve made.
Happy Swipeaversary, Muneer! Thank you for your exceptional contributions and being an extraordinary Swiper. We look forward to celebrating many more Swipeaversaries with you.
